Adjusting to school in Japan was a challenge at first. I'm a student at FFLC in Fukuoka, and, to be honest, I'm more of a "learn by doing" person than a classroom kind of guy. Starting in a class where everything was taught in Japanese was tough – it felt like "good luck understanding!" But as we learned vocabulary and grammar, things got easier. It's like any skill, right? It takes time.
Our school schedule – Monday through Friday, 1:30 pm to 5:40 pm – isn't the best for flexibility. It's harder to find a part-time job when most shifts conflict with classes, and unfortunately, we can't change that. The daily routine is pretty standard: two 90-minute classes and a 50-minute kanji class. Despite the repetition, I really enjoy kanji class because I studied it before coming to Japan. It's not that the classes are bad, they just get a bit predictable – but hey, what school doesn't?
Before the summer heat kicked in, we loved going to Higashi Park to study and eat lunch before classes. It's got benches, picnic tables, even some water features – definitely a cool place to hang out. But once summer arrives... whoa, the heat and humidity are no joke! We're much happier indoors where that sweet AC saves the day.
Sometimes after classes, we grab a bite or do something interesting since the sun sets later. Evenings are nice for hanging out at the park... maybe even grab a drink or two!
