First trip

Embarking on our beach adventure wasn't as straightforward as we initially thought. Unfamiliar with the surroundings and armed with newly acquired bicycles, we set our sights on a beach approximately 13 km away. The journey started smoothly, benefitting from Fukuoka's sea-level location. Armed with navigation, we pedaled confidently, guided by the promise of sandy shores.

However, reality struck when Jana examined the map, revealing that the other destination she envisioned was a whopping 25 km from our dorm. Undeterred, we pressed on, navigating through the modern and meticulously planned Island City, enjoying its sleek architecture. Crossing a substantial bridge proved challenging uphill but exhilarating on the descent.

As we neared our destination, an unexpected obstacle emerged – a railway track blocking our path. Undeterred, we followed the road, hopeful for an alternative route to the beach. While the anticipated beach access eluded us, we stumbled upon Umi no Nakamichi, a delightful botanical park with added attractions like a zoo, hotel, playgrounds, and an expansive aquarium. Although tempting to spend the entire day there, the clock reminded us of the time, and our original destination still beckoned.

By 4 pm, we found ourselves on the cusp of reaching the island Jana desired to explore. However, with darkness looming, a prudent decision led us to turn back. A trio, including Ellie, Charlotte, and Randy, opted for a train ride home, while Jana, Andy, and I chose to race against the clock on our bikes. Spotting their train along the way, we playfully snapped a photo, injecting an element of friendly competition.

The exhilarating ride back proved not only enjoyable but also efficient, as we reached home before our train-taking companions. The experience left us yearning for more, promising countless adventures yet to unfold. We look forward to returning to explore the elusive island and relive the thrill of the journey. Many more exciting escapades await on our horizon.

始業前だったので、私たちは何か面白いことをしたかった。私たちの中には日本に一週間しかいない人もいて、自転車を手に入れたばかりで、ビーチに行くことに決めました。

もちろん、そう簡単にはいきませんでした。私たちはその場所を全く知らなかったし、ビーチは13キロも離れていました。途中の道はそれほど悪くなかったです。福岡はほぼ海面にあるためです。私たちは新しくできた町、アイランドシティを通り抜け、非常にモダンで計画的な街づくりに感心しました。目的地に到達するためには、非常に大きな橋を渡る必要がありました。上りは楽しくなかったけれども、下りは素晴らしかったです。

しかし、私たちが目的地に近づいていると、向こう側には列車の線路があることに気付きました。それでも道路に従い、ビーチに行く方法を見つけることを期待しました。しかし、それは実現せず、そのために私たちは「海のなかみち」と呼ばれる公園に行くことになりました。それは素敵な植物園だけでなく、動物園、ホテル、子供たちの遊び場、さらには巨大な水族館もありました。この場所では一日中過ごせましたが、私たちは進んで行き、ヤナが見たかった島にほぼ到達しました。でも、これは既に午後4時頃で、暗くなる前に戻らなければなりませんでした。私たちは巨大な公園のある町に戻りましたが、エリー、シャーロット、ランディの3人は電車で帰ることを決めました。私、ヤナ、アンディは、彼らよりも電車で早く帰れるだろうと考え、できるだけ速く走りました。彼らの電車を見て写真を撮ることさえできました。言わせてもらうと、それはとても楽しかったし、私が今までにしたことの中で一番の距離だと思いますが、彼らよりも早く帰れたのは素晴らしかったです。もう一度そこに戻って、島を見て楽しむことを楽しみにしています。これからもたくさんの冒険が待っています。
